The legs didnt feel very good at all for much of the run and I was fighting the whole time to keep positive and moving. Bloomington Loop/Fields. I was late getting to the DC so i missed the group. Headed out the same as last week just incase they went that way. Saw them out by south Bloomington Hills but they where going the other way. Added a little extra when I got to Staheli farms so i would hit 20 cause I knew if I tried to do it at the end it wouldnt happen. Other than a emergency potty stop at the Man of War bridge a pretty uneventful run. Just me and my thoughts for 2+ hours. Boy did i need my music!

Fields tempo. 2 warm, 9 tempo, 2 cool. Been having a really hard time with doing anything lately so draging myself out to do this was even more difficult. Warm up felt fine and I moved into the tempo without much trouble. Felt much better than last week and thought I might be headed for another super run but ended up with the same average as last week. Short report for now. 2nd overall, 1st old man. Happy I bested time from 5 years ago but the legs couldnt hold the sub 2:40 pace. Started out with a pack of 7 at a good pace following 1 guy. A few fell off around 3 milesand the guy who said before the race he was shooting for 1:17/1:14 splits had to break for the bathroom. I made a move towards #1 and no one followed or couldn't keep pace. Kept within striking distance for a few miles then bathroom break came flying by and I knew he was the winner. Keep 1-2 in eye sight but they where pulling away slowly. Got the half in 1:19 something and was hoping to hold pace but the legs couldn't do it. By 18 I was down to 6:20s and fading fast. Slowed with each mile but kept pushing as well as I could to the end. Thankfully everyone else seemed to fade just as bad and I didn't get passed. Won't be coming back to this race I don't think. The out and back then out and back again is just way to tough mentally and the amount of people using the beach path are horrid. You just can't run a race while fighting hundreds of walker/joggers/bikers/dogs on a 5' wide path. Sadly the volunteers trying to hand out fluids weren't told to watch for those of us coming the other way and getting fluids was hit or miss at best. At worst I was forced to run through their outstretched arms as they tried to hand water to those coming the other way because i couldn't go around them. So, some frustrations with time and crowds but I'm still glad I gave it another shot. The course seemed to be .2 long according to everyone's watches to darn it.

No goals or expectations today. I just wanted to get a long run in and have some fun on the trails. Saw Dave and Logan just before the start but once we started they went out a little harder with the high school kids running the 1/2 so I hung back a bit. Caught Logan just before the end of the first leg but lost him again as I stopped to pick out something to eat. Followed him through most of the 2nd stage until the last couple miles then I caught up enough that we could chat for those last few miles. Stopped and got a drink before starting the 3rd and final leg. Legs where tired but there was some good down hill at the first of this leg so I went as hard as I could dodging around people running the 1/2. Finished pretty well at the end of a higher mileage week.

Had tons of fun, the views were great when I was able to look up from watching the trail so I didnt kill myself. Glad I did this one.

City Wells. Yard work the last few days had given me a sore body so I figured I'd do my tempo on wed and take today easy. Got going up the trail and felt really good so I decided to come home tempo speed or tempo effort. No watch so I couldn't give a guess but I was working hard even with the downhill assistance. Made it back to the road and decided to extend over to grapevine. Made it out and turned around but I was starting to fade bad. Talked myself into one last mile but as i turned getting back onto the road by the round about I went down hard. Of course I jumped up quick looking around to see if anyone had seen. I was in the clear but wounded. Jogged it home slow with hurt legs, wrists and pride.

Met up with Bill and Mike and ran from the old Brentwood Bowl to Dixie Springs and back for 7. Then we met up with Dustin and Scott and drove up to Anderson Jct and ran back to Brentwood for another 13. Took the first 7 easy then the first 7 from the junction easy talking with Dustin for most of the way. Picked it up for 4 of the last 5. Felt good but couldnt have held on for much longer at the hard pace. It was fun to run with the guys again. It almost felt like the club runs of old. Just missing a few guys.

Not a very good race today. I ran from home up to the start to warm up and timed it just right so I wasn't sitting around waiting for the start. I felt good and was figuring I could hit the usual 1:18 and maybe even go below for the first time in a few years. Not today. The first 3 miles are super fast and 3guys took off like a shot. I went out harder than last year and maybe I over did it but I didn't feel like I was pushing just letting the downhill take me. Hit the soccer park and knew the rest of the run was going to be tough as I was huffing pretty hard and was slowing fast. Had a few consistent miles but most of them were slower than the one before and my pace was all over the place. Didn't even have the juice to try and catch the guy at the end. Tough, tough run. Stayed up in Eden with Mike, Bill, Cody, Scott, Dustin and Art. Had lots of fun before and after race day hanging out.

Race was cold and rainy and windy. Went out trying to be conservative hoping to have something for the canyon. Hit mile 11 and times dropped and the legs shut down. It felt like a few years ago when I had to walk at the end of 2 races. Fought hard to keep moving and stay in sight of the people I'd been following but they slowly pulled away. Came off the dam and had to go so I pulled over and had a slow old man wiz (good gads). Rain picked up pretty good down the canyon and I was getting pretty cold. The legs wouldn't go and I was just hanging on. toward the end I started to either go numb or I was warming up a touch. Felt like I picked it up the last 3 and was able to pass those who had passed me since the half. Times show I slowed slightly so the effort must have gone up. Not the time I planned but I'm not disappointed.

The consistency of those splits shows that this was a pretty good race and you ran the race you were in shape for. This is a very good spring marathon. Now training to bring those tempo times down 15 secs per mile and the stg splits will do the same thing and another or is in order! Great job! Proud of you.

Hell Hole tempo with Dave. Didnt start the watch till the last 2 of the tempo so dont have an acurate time or distance for the run. Stuck with Dave until the Dam Rd then he started to pull away. I was able to keep within 10-20 feet until towards the top and he started pulling away as he sped up. Not a bad run I guess. Prob 6:13 avg for the tempo.

Hell Hole/Dam Rd Tempo. Solo today as Dave was up north. I didnt get out until 1 and by then the clouds had burned off and it was getting warm. Started at the top of the drop and it was a battle from there on out. I didnt feel like i was going very fast and the heat was affecting me for sure. Thought about calling it coming up the dam road but just kept at it and pushed on as best I could till the end. Ended up not being as bad as it felt. 5:49, 5:53, 6:22,6:16,5:51,6:00 (6:01avg). City Wells/Prospector/Cottonwood Hills/Brackens Loop. 

Woke up late to rain and thought it would be a good day to just stay on the roads but as I approched the City Wells trail I decided that that would be a fun route in the rain. Once I got to the Prospector turn off I decided to heck with only going 10 miles. Its only perfect weather to run this route a few times a year so I went for it. The trail was perfect and no one else was around and the rain was awesome. Got to the Cottonwood Hills trail turn off and took it because why not. Never been on this trail and it is absolutely beautiful especially in todays weather. The rain had picked up at this point and was starting to make waterfalls down the sandstone cliffs so I stopped and got a nice drink and checked out the area a little. Ran into the Brackens Loop trail so I jumped on it and looped around to the top of City Wells and came home on that trail. So much fun out there when the sand is damp from the rains. Glad I went for it and bagged the road run.

Up/back STG course. Ran up the course to the base of the volcano 11 miles then back the the finish. Hit the way up at a pretty good pace (7:20s i think) then stopped for a quick potty break. Started back down a little tired and sore but after 1/2 mile I loosened up and was able to keep 5 miles at 6min avg. Then slowed with each mile dispite any effort to the contrary for the next 4 but was able to put in a good final mile pushing hard. 

HARD workout but one I think I should do more often.

Frontage rd from Toquerville exit to CC/home. Started on the north side of the freeway and ran east. Under the freeway then followed the rd to CC and home. Dark the whole run which was nice and only a couple cars that late at night. Hit the first 10 at sub 7 without realizing it then slowed a bit for the final 10. Had plenty of water a few shotblocks and part of a gu. Not a fan of salted watermelon gu. Glad I talked myself into going out and not missing my last long run before the marathon.

Aside from having to wait way to long to get on a bus to the start things went smooth this year before the race. Got to the start and visited the restroom, ate a gu and finished dressing and then it was time to go. I felt really good the first several miles prob better than in any marathon before and was excited that this might be the one to hit a big pr. Hit Veyo well and passed several people going up the hill and through the Dameron section. Got to the 1/2 and the time was pretty close to last years which was kind of dishartening as I felt I was running stronger and smother than last year. Kept plugging along and tried to pick it up on the down hills. Starting feeling the pace after Snow Canyon but again was able to keep going fairly well. Grabbed a water at 20 but the dang cup was empty which sucked but I survived. Saw Steve up in the distance but as we neared town he and the few guys in front started pulling away and I knew I was going to have to push with everything I had if I was going to get 2:40 or less. Held on for the last few but couldnt keep the pace fast enough to get the time. Pushed it in with all I had to pr by a few seconds. 

Overall happy with the race but would still like to find what Im missing to get into the 2:30s.

Got to the start with over an hour to spare so I checked in, restroomed and sat for 25 minutes trying to keep warm cause it was chilly. Went for a warm up jog up towards the entrance to Zions and felt pretty good. Got back to the start, removed the warm clothes and it was time to go. They had "Butch Cassidy" take off a minute or two before everyone else and the first 5 to pass him would get a prize at the end. 4-5 young kids took off pretty fast and I thought it might be interesting but after watching them for a bit I could tell none of them would last the whole race at that pace. Caught Butch at about 1 mile and there where 3 youngsters just a bit in front of me. Passed 2 and it looked like the 3rd wanted to come with we just before the 3mile mark but he was breathing pretty hard so I pushed coming across the bridge and he fell back. Tried to hold a steady pace through the rolling last 3 miles. JD, Gabe and Ada met me just before 6 and ran with me as far as they could and then I kicked it in hard to the finish.

Had a really fun race and Im glad I was able to do this one again after so long away from it. Got a cool little trophy and $50 to Classic Sports for the win and a fancy beer glass from a pub in Sprindale for beating Butch.

City Wells-Pot Farm. Ran up to the top of City Wells in the fog. It was fun as I couldnt see more than 30 feet in any direction. Got to the top and decided to go up to where we found a pot farm over 20 years ago. None of it remains now but a few years ago there was still water pails and hose and tarp from the operation. The wash was perfect to run up with the moisture and once I got to the end of the canyon I hiked up to the top of a peak because it was there. I love this area especially in the rain. Wanted to do more but the wind was picking up and it was getting colder so I headed back down. Saw Dave coming up the trail just before the gate. Shirt twins today!!!!!

Mustang Pass. Cool morning with the fog hanging over the valley. Ive wanted to go to the top of the butte on this route for 30 years and finally did it today. Had a great run/power hike up with no trail and was rewarded with a super beautiful view of the area especially with the fog. Tried to get a photo but my ipod only takes video and its really poor quality. I may have to find a small camera to take to capture the great views before they are gone.

CC Trail. Had a pretty good head wind on the way out and it was chilly. The wind stopped from the top of Highland to CC and then started again about the same place on the way back. I wanted to hit the last few miles hard so i was pushing and I had to lean pretty good to keep from getting blown into traffic coming down the parkway. Once I hit Telegraph the wind was pushing me down the road big time. I opened it up and went as hard as I could. It was a blast flying down the road.
