Short report for now. 2nd overall, 1st old man. Happy I bested time from 5 years ago but the legs couldnt hold the sub 2:40 pace. Started out with a pack of 7 at a good pace following 1 guy. A few fell off around 3 milesand the guy who said before the race he was shooting for 1:17/1:14 splits had to break for the bathroom. I made a move towards #1 and no one followed or couldn't keep pace. Kept within striking distance for a few miles then bathroom break came flying by and I knew he was the winner. Keep 1-2 in eye sight but they where pulling away slowly. Got the half in 1:19 something and was hoping to hold pace but the legs couldn't do it. By 18 I was down to 6:20s and fading fast. Slowed with each mile but kept pushing as well as I could to the end. Thankfully everyone else seemed to fade just as bad and I didn't get passed. Won't be coming back to this race I don't think. The out and back then out and back again is just way to tough mentally and the amount of people using the beach path are horrid. You just can't run a race while fighting hundreds of walker/joggers/bikers/dogs on a 5' wide path. Sadly the volunteers trying to hand out fluids weren't told to watch for those of us coming the other way and getting fluids was hit or miss at best. At worst I was forced to run through their outstretched arms as they tried to hand water to those coming the other way because i couldn't go around them. So, some frustrations with time and crowds but I'm still glad I gave it another shot. The course seemed to be .2 long according to everyone's watches to darn it.
