PR for me by 30 minutes. Now that makes me a happy boy. Wow. What can you say about today? A bit o' rain and wind makes for a hard run. I talked with Marci for a sec before the start and thought that Id run the first several miles with her. That way we could help each other keep a good pace and after that I would start picking it up. That didnt happen. I lost her after several steps then found her again and then I just felt so good I picked up the pace. Ran a few miles with Ryan and the Bull and figured Id stick with them and that would give me a good time. That didnt work either. I was still feeling frisky so I sped up more. Dispite the rain (actually I love the rain. Id run in it all the time if I could) and wind I was feeling really good until about mile 21. I held it together pretty well until the last two miles and then I slowed noticeably. It was fun to run by people and know they where cheering for you cause there was no one else around. That helps. Even though I didnt get as low a time as I hoped for (but everyones times where off so we all got the shaft there) I still feel really good about this run. I ran smart and just followed my body and kept positive. I wont give splits cause thats alot of spliting.

James, very happy for you. Tough conditions and still a PR for you. You have really worked hard and totally deserve the results. Impressed with your mental toughness!

James, way to go! I am so proud of you. I really had a fun summer training with you. You know... I ran a 2:55 one year and the next year (minus the stroke year) I ran a 2:42. I think it is totally in the cards for you (and more) with another solid year of base through the winter and those next steps in the summer.

But what in the crap am I talking about next SGM for! We'll worry about that later! Good job.

Bonus points for biggest PR of the day! Congrats.

crazy PR! and a great time! and you have a surprisingly positive attitude about the apparent horrible weather conditions. great mental toughness by being able to block out the negative and run your own race. just think of what you can do in "ideal" weather. 2:40s for sure!

Great job James! All that hard work and training paid off! I am excited to see how awesome you will keep doing. Way to go!

From Superfly on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 19:52:43

James- So glad you had a big PR. We all knew that after all the hard work this summer you were due for something big. Great job overcoming the elements and turning out a race to remember.

I'm guessing it just depends on what your personal goals are but... if you wanted you could pull off a 2:30 or so with good conditions and continued training.

Awesome job!

Thanks everyone for the replys. Ive read most everyones blogs and it sounds like this one really got into a lot of heads in a bad way. Everyone that finished this monster did AWESOME no matter the time. Any one of us could have (and probably wanted to) stopped and said "thats enough. Why am I beating my body up for this?" But not one person did. Even facing times off by more than we would have though possible considering the work we put in. Each person kept on. That inspires me. You guys ROCK!!!

From Dustin on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 12:06:28

James, You did Awesome. Even though I was in a lot of pain as you came by me, I was happy to see you running so well. I'm glad you were able to have such a big PR. Even with the bad experience I'm ready to find another marathon soon.
