Showed up late so I had to wait for the buses to come back from dropping off their first loads and then I only had a few minutes to get warmed up but I guess it didnt hurt to bad. I decided that I wasnt going to check the watch like I usually do at the mile markers and just run by feel. The last couple years Ive seen how fast the first mile is and I think it psychs me out. Its prob a good thing I didnt check cause that first mile was pretty quick.

I fell into 6th place after about 1/2 mile and was able to catch Jose just after getting on the trail and stayed within striking distance of the 3-4 guys until Garrett (#3) started to pull away. I caught #4 about mile 4 and thought maybe I could get up to Garett but I couldnt quite keep the speed where it needed to be. I felt much better than last year when I was pretty dead the last mile. If needed I could have kicked to keep off anyone trying to sneek up behind me but I still gave it a really good effort.

Considering how crappy Ive been training since the marathon Im excited with the results. I was able to shave 40 seconds off my PR.

1 - 5:08

2 - 5:36

3 - 5:30

4 - 5:43

5 - 5:54

6 - 5:56

.2 - 1 minute (5:50 pace)

Now its time to get the mileage back up where its supposed to be and see what happens.

Great job James. No miles over a 6 pace. Was the Jose you passed the same one that tries to run Walter off the road?

Ha ha. Thats funny. I dont think so. This one is from here. Walters nemesis was from Vegas I think.

Great job. Very promising to take 40 seconds off your PR, and you're certainly headed in the right direction for the year!

Great job, sorry I bailed on the race. I've been sick with allergies all week. I figured running a 10K today wouldn't make me feel any better, so I opted out. Sounds like it was a good race. Hopefully, I can start making it to more of the club runs once we get through the end of the school year.

James, for crappy training you hammered this race! Good to see you out there...if for a brief moment as I watched you chase down Jose.

James,

I noticed that you ran the Surf City Marathon this year. I think I may do it next year. Any advice on training? I know the roads there pretty well. What do you wish you had done differently?

James sweet race! was fun to chat for a bit after. Pretty impressive holding that pace through the neighborhoods on that course. Also, great job on the PR!!

Thanks everybody.

Ken - Good to see you again yesterday. As far as training for Surf City, my main mistake was going out to fast the first half. I didnt do enough to prepare for the flat. Im used to having the hills do alot of the work for me and of course that doesnt happen on a flat route. More longer tempo runs would have helped. Your a great runner in good shape. You could go down there and do really well. The one thing I didnt like was the out and back of the course. It was really hard to head toward the finish and then away from it then back.

Sweet Times! Your really ripping it up this year! Great job.

Great job James. I like Dustin have had horrible allergies and wasn't healthy enough to race. But I'm excited about your race... A 40 second PR is pretty good on a 10k. You should be just fine and looking for a solid summer. Ease the mileage up and listen to your body along the way.

Who are the ad wizards that thought of that one!

LOL Dave.

I'm sure that's an inside joke that means more to you and your brother than anyone else, but I have seen that skit many a gut-busting time.
