Im not good at mile by mile reports like others so Ill just throw random thought out on todays race. In my mind I really thought I could pull off a 2:42 but I am very pleased with todays results. 2:48, seventh place overall and first in my division. Plus I was able to shave another 8 minutes off my PR. Which was set on a much faster course. I can honestly say I left nothing on the course in this run. I was able to stay positive even when I ran completly out of gas and was running on sheer will and the legs just couldnt go any faster. It was fun to get the next runner in my sights and then pick them off and work on the next one. A few tried to stay with me as I passed but I was able to hold pace and they eventually fell off. I felt incredible for the first half and was starting to wonder if maybe I had gone out to slow but once we came across the dam my legs got heavy and I wasnt able to pick up the pace down the canyon like I though I could. From here on out it was all about mind games. I just kept telling myself "this is what all the hard work is for. Keep pushing and you can fall down once you cross the finish line." My legs really gave out the last three miles. Aside from those last three miles I am pumped about this race and how my training is progressing. Im ready for the next one and another wall to break through.

Once again great job today James, very impressive! I think you ran very smart and had a great race. It should be a fun summer of training. I think we can all expect good things come St. George this fall.

You're right--this is what all the hard work is for. It's awesome when it all comes together on race day. Great job!

Wow James that is awesome. That is a great time at a tough spring marathon and will set you up for the rest of the year.

Great job James! I knew that you would finish strong. My wife was so amazed at how fast you three were! I am glad that I can be surrounded by so many strong runners! Awesome job!

James, I am so happy for you. You are just a complete BEAST!! You work so hard and it's just nice to see a hard worker reap the rewards. Also, very nice to meet your wife today. What a NICE person.

Nice Job James. You have improved so much over the last 2 years! It is awesome to follow your successes. Your pacing for this course was perfect. You even stayed sub 7 pace over the last 5K. Very hard to do on that course!

From josse on Sun, May 17, 2009 at 01:35:51 from 70.193.161.130

Great job on another huge PR, The last 3 of this course are a killer, I don't think you did all that bad. Like cody said you stayed sub-7. Awesome

WOW!!!! Amazing James - not that we all didn't know it was going to happen; you have been working SO hard. Glad that it all came together and paid off - 7th overall and 1st in age! I am just way proud!

Your race strategy sounds and looks (from the times) like it could not have been more perfect.

Again... just absolutely stoked for you brother!

Great race james! 7th?! That is great. Way to pick people off at the end. You stayed consistent in your training and it payed off. That is a good PR to beat in St George!
